Barcelona
10 Hours
We left Barcelona to visit the town of Besalú.
We will arrive at the Old Bridge of Besalú, which is believed to have been built in the 11th century.
During the tour we will visit the ecclesiastical monuments found in the town, such as the churches of Sant Pere, Santa María and Sant Vicenç, which alternate Romanesque with Gothic elements. We will also visit the old Jewish quarter, where our guide will explain the customs related to Hebrew rituals.
Then we will visit the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, a place of exceptional scenic value thanks to the thick forests of beech, oak and holm oak trees that exist there. The “Diamond Head” of Catalonia, also called the Volcan de Santa Margarida. We will take a short excursion through a beech forest, lasting 1 hour, 3 km with a slight incline of 150 m. This is a phreatomagmatic volcano, the explosion of which opened a wide circular crater, inside which is the Romanesque hermitage that gives its name to the volcano.
After these activities, we will take a break in a typical Catalan farmhouse, where we will have time for lunch.
On the way back to Barcelona, we will pass through the city of Girona. We will start our tour at the Stone Bridge (Pont de Pedra), an iconic place to enjoy the panoramic views of the Onyar River and the famous colorful houses that line its banks. From there, we continue towards the Barri Vell, the old town of Girona, which is a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets full of history. Here, we will visit the Girona Cathedral, known for its impressive baroque façade and for having the widest Gothic nave in the world. And of course, the setting for the film Game of Thrones.
We will finish the tour walking along the walls of Girona. This walk will offer you spectacular views of the city and the surrounding area. The walls are accessible from several points in the old town and provide a unique perspective of how the city defended itself in times past.
Finally, we will close this day of adventure by returning to Barcelona.
