We left Barcelona to visit the town of Besalú.
Besalú is considered one of the most beautiful in Spain by National Geographic magazine, and of course one of the most photogenic, especially the old bridge of Besalú
We walked along the Old Bridge of Besalú. It is believed that it was built in the 11th century on a Roman bridge, but it was rebuilt in the 14th century. After the destruction it suffered in the civil war, it was rebuilt again. It consists of two sections at an angle and in the center is the tower with a small arch. We visited the center of the city, flooded with streets and facades as part of its medieval heritage. During the tour we visited the ecclesiastical monuments that are in the town, such as the churches of Sant Pere, Santa María and Sant Vicenç, which alternate Romanesque elements with other Gothic ones. Meanwhile, in the Jewish quarter you can visit some medieval baths, dedicated to Hebrew ritual ablutions.
After this medieval walk, we will approach the Costa Brava. We will reach one of the routes of the famous Cami de Ronda, an ancient path that ancient settlers used to protect themselves from pirate attacks. We will discover a 1.5 km walk, alternating small coves, where crystal-clear waters are part of the landscape. It will be time to have lunch on one of the terraces with sea views.
Another environment that will not go unnoticed is the Monumental area of the Faro de Sant Sebastian, where the ancient Iberian settlers made a settlement. Not far from this area is the site of Ullastret, the most important Iberian settlement in ancient Hispania. Other panoramic views of the Costa Brava.
To end the day, we will go to the medieval town of Pals, another must-see on our tour. In Pals you can walk through its narrow streets that will transport you to another era. We will visit the Torre de les Hores, with an impressive viewing point that offers panoramic views of the surroundings.
Finally, we will close this day of adventure by returning to Barcelona.
